A “Times 9” Landscape Story with Sally Kheng – 15 April 2023

The Artist

Sally studied Art, Design and Business Studies at Trent College and Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art. She has spent many years sketching and painting her local Lincolnshire landscape.
“I see the landscapes in vivid shades and I want to share my rose-tinted glasses with the viewer. I first depict the subject in sketchy scribbles of black pen in my sketchbook, then I reawaken my drawings in watercolour, fabric and threads.”

The Workshop

Learn this process from Sally Kheng in this one-day workshop. You will begin in watercolour inks, using wood sticks for mark-making. Sally will guide you to create strips of semi-abstracted landscape with a simple horizon line and merging colours for ground and skies. Then, you’ll seek out 9 little squares to cut out and mount on a fresh sheet to create one picture.
Using off-cuts of your painting, sections of silk fabrics and printed text, these nine squares will be linked together and stitched over to highlight certain areas. Your result will be a personal, semi-abstracted mixed media landscape inspired picture, ready to frame!
