Leah always brings a little bit of magic & sunshine!

Leah Halliday is a designer, educator and social entrepreneur and has been working in the creative industry for over 20 years. She lovingly creates and designs a small collection of handmade gifts, accessories, homewares, paper goods, embroidery designs and surface patterns that combines her life long love of craft and all things vintage from her studio in a tiny hamlet on the Solway Coast in the South West of Scotland. Found objects and forgotten fabrics find their way into her designs.

Leah finds herself inspired by her collection of vintage fabrics, bits and pieces and nostalgic images and is drawn to colour, print and pattern, She loves nothing better than turning something old and forgotten into something beautiful & new. Many gifts are one-off pieces, limited editions or made to order. She welcomes commissions, just get in touch.

From time to time Leah also sells an ever-changing selection of carefully chosen vintage finds for you and your home at events & markets. She appreciates the beauty, added charm and history of a vintage find. As a result of a discerning eye and many hours and miles spent on the vintage hunt. Leah shares with you the giddy thrill of discovering wonderful vintage treasures.

Having previously worked as a lecturer in both Further and Higher Education she has gained many years’ experience delivering training to a wide range of adults. She has hosted creative and sewing workshops to both adults and children for the past 9 years in Dumfries and teaches at other venues and events across the U.K. Its a complete pleasure to her, passing on her skills at workshops she hosts, spreading the joy of sewing, recycling and making your own.

About this Workshop

This Workshop is perfect for all levels

Enjoy a therapeutic day of stitch as you learn the joy of hand embroidery. Leah’s designs are created using her original illustrations and inspired by her collection of vintage embroidery linens. During the workshop you will work on your design and Leah will gently guide you through the process so you can create your very own embroidery pattern. Inspiration will be on hand to help you, as well as expert tuition and plenty of guidance.

Leah will share her know how on different stitches and you will learn how versatile they can be. by practicing a variety of stitches on a sampler to use for future reference. So whether you are a complete beginner or a more experienced stitcher, Leah will make sure you are able to embroider your design. You’ll also use a variety of threads and yarn to explore different textures and the styles they achieve.

Leah will show you how to create a colour palette and using the stitches you’ve learnt you will begin to stitch your chosen design. During the class you’ll start to create a unique piece that could also be transformed into hoop art or a panel for a cushion, added to a quilt or framed as a picture on your wall. You’ll leave with the beginnings of a beautiful hand embroidered design to continue at home.
