Textile Offcuts with Isabel Fletcher – 26th February 2022

Textile Offcuts

About Studio Isabel Fletcher.

I am a London based textile designer working with offcuts to create contemporary, sustainable craft. Working with production offcuts, my designs take inspiration from often overlooked and undervalued details in life. Working with the offcut’s predetermined shapes and materials, I use natural dyes, manipulation and arrangement to create functional works of art. I view our leftover scraps and remnants, not as waste, but as the starting point for further design. Collage, colour and materiality is at the heart of everything I create.

About the workshop.

The aim of the workshop is to explore how textile waste can be used as the starting point for design, rather than an endpoint. We will look at ideas of how waste can be incorporated into everyday sewing projects, such as mending and repair, decorative artworks or entirely new pieces of home furnishings and clothing.

During the workshop, I lead a series of techniques exploring the endless design potential of textile waste. I demonstrate how considered placement, shape, colour, and stitch can be combined to create beautifully intricate textiles. The full day workshop allows participants to put their new-found skills into practice by working into items brought with them, or starting an entirely new project from textile offcuts. This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with sewing experience.
