The Artist

"My works combine wire and thread to create intricate and delicate two dimensional and three-dimensional works reflecting observations of nature. The inspiration stems from the love of natural forms in which I look for shapes, textures, colours, within what might be a hedge row or a motorway verge, recording the small and insignificant details that can be sometimes overlooked.
I live and work in Manchester where I studied Embroidery and went on to develop my own practise and teach textiles and fine art. Over the years my work has evolved and has become focused on the use of mixed media with a fascination for wire and crochet."

The Workshop

The aim of the weekend is to create playful compositions that give a sense of place, exploring observations of the natural world, using a mixed media approach. An opportunity to explore and experiment with combining wire with threads, fabric and hand printed papers using a broad range of exploratory techniques such as hand stitching, crochet, wrapping and binding and shaping wire.

The Saturday will be used to develop in full these techniques and to build up individual elements that will be then used on Sunday to bring together to form a composition within a framework of wire.
