Drawing: From Realism to Abstraction with Mrs Bertimus – 17th or 18th May 2025

The Artist

Mrs B hardly needs an introduction - her workshops are always very popular! Mrs Bertimus studied fashion and textiles at Saint Martin’s School of Art and enjoyed three glorious years of making completely un-wearable garments.
She has taught in Art Education for over twenty-five years and loves sharing techniques and eating lots of cake in her workshops.
Mrs B paints, collages, draws and stitches and loves to weave in her daft little stories when the fancy takes her!

The workshop

Would you like to develop your drawing practice further and explore the possibilities of firstly working from observation and then venturing into the realms of abstraction?

This one day class is suitable for all levels of experience, and even though this workshop will continue from the last drawing class Mrs B taught at Hope & Elvis, it doesn’t matter if you didn’t take part.

The day begins with guided warm-up exercises and a re-cap of  the observational drawing techniques that we previously covered, just to get us back into the swing of things!

After considering quality of line and tonal value, we will observe and respond to natural objects in a more experimental, abstract manner.

“It’s the perfect workshop for those wishing to ‘loosen up’ and adopt a more playful and mindful approach to drawing. I can’t wait to share with you my ‘unravelled’ drawings!” says Mrs B.
