Dyeing with a Difference with Deborah Cooper – 25th April 2026

About the workshop:

This workshop will focus on transforming the colour of fabrics, threads and papers to create a curated and visually engaging collection of materials. We will experiment with various small batch dyeing techniques, utilising natural dyes, rust, and selected art supplies to alter and enhance the appearance of your gathered stash. The majority of these processes will make use of everyday household items, ensuring the methods are accessible and straightforward for all participants.

About the artist:

Mixed media textile artist Deb Cooper is renowned for her use of a subtle and gentle colour palette, carefully selecting faded, natural tones that give new life to old and discarded materials. Her work often hints at hidden memories, layering meaning and emotion within each piece.

Central to her practice is the use of natural dyes, ink, and mark making, which she applies to small sections of recycled fabric, vintage textiles, and old book pages. These materials frequently include deconstructed lace and doilies, each chosen for their history and texture. Deb stitches these elements together, relying primarily on hand stitching to unify the layers into a cohesive composition. Occasionally, machine embroidery is introduced, but the central focus remains on the meditative and tactile process of hand stitch, which binds the various components into a single, expressive artwork.
