Embroidered Wreath with Emily Notman – 14 June 2025

The Artist

"I create bespoke textiles mixing media and building up tactile delicate surfaces. I work and rework my pieces with paint, dyes, bleach and ink, burning and layering until finishing it with hand stitch. I find beauty in flaky walls, overgrown buildings and encrusted surfaces; this is something I like to recreate in my work.

My pieces evolve and grow with time, incorporate history with layering and sometimes the tiniest mark made or stitch changes a piece dramatically, it’s this detail that excites me".

The Workshop

Join Emily to create your own personalised embroidered textile wreath. Begin by creating your own beautiful set of embellishments from air dry clay, and then explore colour by painting your base fabrics. With this collection of materials Emily will then show you how to construct your wreath using hand stitch and contemporary applique techniques to build texture. Finally, embellish with your personal handmade adornments and vintage fabric, beads, ribbon and haberdashery to make your piece extra personal. Optional - all materials will be provided to make a wreath but please feel free to bring special fabrics if you wish to make an heirloom wreath (e.g. bridal fabrics, baby clothes or haberdashery with special meaning).
